Who we are

What To Expect

We have two services every Sunday - traditional service and a family/contempory service. Join the service that best fits your style, both services have the same message to make sure we are all learning as a family. Life can be busy, but at worship you can slow down and accept God's Word and Sacraments.

Lutheran Church Missouri Synod

First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids - Missouri Synod teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God:

The Father, creator of all that exists;

Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and

the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments.

The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

We accept and preach the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Sharing the Love of Jesus

Eternal Life

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in HIm should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Baptism

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

Bible

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. . . For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:9, 13

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Mark 16:16

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16

Bulletin Announcements

Mark Your Calendars: Thanksgiving Eve services will be held on November 21st at 6:30pm. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

During the month of November, we are especially reminded of all the blessings God has given us. This year the Thanksgiving offerings in those specific envelopes will be designated to our Food Shelf. This is one way we can support those in our community who depend on this service for needed food. Thank you, Board Of Missions.

BIBLE STUDY: Please join us for Pastor's Sunday morning Bible Study class each Sunday at 9:15. We are studying the Book of Hebrews, Chapter 10 "Jesus Sacrifice Once For All”. It is good to be found under the shepherd. Goodies and coffee are available. We hope to see you all there.

ALL MEN OF FIRST LUTHERAN You are invited to attend Men’s Morning Bible Study each Wednesday morning at Forest Lake Restaurant. We meet in the upstairs back room at 6:45 AM. We open with a prayer and then begin our reading for the day. After our reading we have discussion. During this time our server takes our breakfast orders. Some men order just coffee and others a full breakfast. We are finished by 8 AM. There is plenty of room so bring your Bible and join us in studying God’s word.

ALL MEN OF FIRST LUTHERAN- Men’s Club. If you’re male and a member of First Lutheran you’re automatically a member of Men’s Club. We have meetings on the second Monday of each month at 6:30pm in the church basement. Our mission is to help the ministry of First Lutheran by providing funds and manpower for the betterment of our church. Cinnamon Roll Sunday and the Wild Game Feed are a couple of ways for us to raise funds. Our meetings consist primarily of how to spend these funds. After a short meeting we have dessert provided by one of the men. Come and join us. You’ll enjoy it.

YOUTH: The youth will be serving soup suppers before Advent services on December 5th and 12th starting at 5:00. A signup sheet for soups and bars will be in the book by the office.

IT'S RED STOCKING TIME! We hope you've been filling your stockings with your dimes or any change you have. We will have the stockings out ready for distribution on Sunday November 19th and they can be returned any Sunday during the month of December. You may leave your stockings in the basket designated at the back of the church or in the mites box. You may also pick up an empty stocking and start collecting for 2019. This money goes toward the LWML mission goals in our district and at national. Thank you! LWML

BENEFIT DINNER: There is going to be a benefit dinner for John Benton on Sunday December 2 at the Eagles. The congregation was asked if we would like to make bars for the bake sale. John Benton is the husband of Jeanne Benton, who recently joined our congregation.

LWML CHRISTMAS BAKE SALE: Sunday, December 9th the women of the congregation are having a Christmas Bake Sale. Delicious cookies, breads, pies and jams and much more will be available for purchase. This fundraiser is to help support our mission outreach. The bake sale is a free will donation. Quilts will also be sold for missions. Bakers- please package your baked goods and bring them to the church either Saturday December 8th between 2 and 3 pm or Sunday morning. Please keep LWML's ministry in your thoughts and prayers.
